Postdoctoral fellowships

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) invites potential applicants for Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Postdoctoral Fellowships to consider an affiliation with UOIT as a host university. Successful recipients would begin their fellowship in September 2018.

Potential applicants are invited to express interest. The deadline for the application to SSHRC is Wednesday, September 20, but internal deadlines are in early September.

As eligibility for the fellowship depends on “affiliation with a recognized university or research institution,” the university seeks to endorse a qualified candidate in its application. Successful candidates may also receive teaching opportunities, if appropriate.

Our faculty is in the process of developing a university-wide introductory elective and undergraduate subject minor in Indigenous Studies. Our current programs include Communications, Criminology, Legal Studies, Political Science and Psychology. Interested applicants are encouraged to peruse the faculty experts web page to identify potential supervisors with mutual interests.

We seek to host a candidate whose work falls within Aboriginal research—the area defined in the SSHRC guidelines as “Research in any field or discipline that is conducted by, grounded in, or engaged with, First Nations, Inuit or Métis communities, societies or individuals and their wisdom, cultures, experiences or knowledge systems, as expressed in their dynamic forms, past and present. Aboriginal research embraces the intellectual, physical, emotional and/or spiritual dimensions of knowledge in creative and interconnected relationships with people, places and the natural environment.”

Prospective candidates should contact Dr. Peter Stoett, Dean, FSSH, for further information by Saturday, August 5.
