College-to-university transfer program

Students in conversationCollege-to-university transfer programs are designed to transfer the credits earned in a college certificate or diploma program toward an undergraduate degree. The Legal Studies Bridge program entails a prescribed set of foundational second-year courses that leads to qualification for entry into a degree program:

  • Legal Research Methods
  • Legal Theory
  • Private Law
  • Public Law

The UOIT General Arts and Science Certificate – UOIT Liberal Arts Transfer grants students one year of advanced standing for their college certificate, allowing them to immediately enter their second year of study.

  • Admission requirements

    Students who have successfully completed a two-year college diploma in either Court and Tribunal Agent/Paralegal or Law Clerk/Legal Administration are eligible to apply for the Bridge program in Legal Studies. Students who have completed a one-year college graduate certificate in Paralegal, Legal Research and Information Management, or Mediation – Alternative Dispute Resolution, along with one of the following college diplomas are also eligible to apply for the Bridge:

    • Child and Youth Worker
    • Developmental Service Worker
    • Law and Security Administration
    • Police Foundations
    • Social Services Worker

    Students who have successfully completed a one-year General Arts and Sciences Certificate – UOIT Liberal Arts Transfer option at a college with at least 70 per cent in each specifically designated course and an overall GPA of at least 3.0 may apply for admission into the second year of the Legal Studies program.

  • Bridge course requirements

    To qualify for entry into the Legal Studies degree program, Bridge students take four foundational second-year courses:

    • Legal Research Methods
    • Legal Theory
    • Private Law
    • Public Law

    If students who are admitted to the Bridge program complete these courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher, with no individual course below a 2.0, they may enter the third year of the Legal Studies program.
