Biography
Alyson King is a lecturer in the Communication program and Academic Advisor for students in the Concurrent Education program. She teaches a variety of courses including Professional Writing, Reading our World, the Impact of Science & Technology on Society, and the History of Science and Technology.
Alyson earned her Ph.D. in the history of education at OISE/UT. Her undergraduate degree is in Canadian history and International Relations. Alyson's current research project is on how children, adolescents and young adults read and understand non-fiction graphic novels/texts. Another project focuses on the how children learn and play in on-line virtual worlds. Other research interests include the history of women and higher education, the role of science, technology and education increating a modern Canada, and the history of educational technologies.
Alyson, with Dr. Sharon Lauricella (Loverock), recently received a Teaching Innovation Fund grant to develop an online writing skills website which is currently under development.
