A message from your Academic Advisor, Amy Anderson
As the Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities I am dedicated to your success and will strive to assist you in making choices that will lead to academic and personal achievement. In this role I will act as your main contact in the Faculty and will assist you through every step of your journey here. I am available to help, support and encourage you in a variety of different areas.
As your Academic Advisor I will:
- interpret academic policies and procedures;
- assist in the selection of appropriate classes (especially if you miss or fail a course);
- provide advice regarding withdrawing from, adding or dropping courses;
- assess and discuss academic progress and standing;
- discuss and evaluate study habits and skills;
- discuss issues which affect academic performance;
- provide tips for academic success;
- address academic difficulties;
- address questions and concerns related to academic and personal life on campus;
- connect students with campus services for additional assistance;
- assist students with establishing realistic educational goals and future planning; and
- provide guidance for successful progression towards graduation.
UOIT has many supportive services for students. As your advisor I am also your connection to campus resources and can help you navigate the university system and services including Campus Health Centre which provides medical care and counselling services. Hired Career Services provides assistance to students and graduates with their job search and career planning. The Academic Success Centre offers services that provide personal and computer-based assistance to help students enhance their academic skills, in writing and other academic areas. The Centre for Students with Disabilities provides services to students with all types of disabilities including physical, medical, and psychiatric or learning disabilities.
